• 2009: Won the Great Plains Stampede Rodeo (Altus, Okla.), with John Paul Lucero; the Longview (Texas) PRCA Rodeo and the San Augustine (Texas) County PRCA Rodeo, with Wade Clayton; switched from heeler to header midway through the season. Finished 38th in the all-around world standings, 96th in team roping heading and 101st  in team roping heeling
• 2008: Won the Cowboy Capital of the World Rodeo (Stephenville, Texas) and the Mesquite (Texas) Championship Rodeo, with Tommy Edens; the Tops in Texas PRCA Rodeo (Jacksonville, Texas); the Kit Carson Fair & Rodeo (Burlington, Colo.); the North Texas State Fair & Rodeo (Denton, Texas); the Comal County Fair & Rodeo (New Braunfels, Texas) and the Bryan (Texas) Breakfast Lions Club PRCA Rodeo, with Justin Lovell; finished 44th in the team roping heeling standings with $22,220

Amateur

As a freshman at Blinn College in 2006, won the Southwest Region collegiate championship in tie-down roping and qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo (Casper, Wyo.). Twice qualified for the National High School Finals Rodeo in team roping and cutting

5-11, 180 … Wife. Kassidy (married Oct. 19, 2011); son, Levi … Father, Joel, works at a therapeutic riding center in Trinity, Texas; mother, Amy Cannon, lives in Stephenville, Texas, and shows cutting horses and barrel races occasionally; two brothers, Joey Lovell and Sam Cannon … Cousin Justin Lovell is also a PRCA roper, with whom Colby paired during most of the 2008 season … Got into rodeo because “my family’s done it forever.” He started roping when he was four years old and won his first buckle when he was 7 … Works on a ranch owned by his grandfather, Bob Samuel, when not on the road competing … Enjoys playing basketball and hog hunting … Graduated from Madisonville (Texas) High School in 2005 … Favorite movies are Lonesome Dove, The Hangover and (the original) True Grit
